Electrification Skills - Fundamental 3 Day Course

Modules:

Day 1 - Magnetic and Electrical Fundamentals

Day 2 - Introduction to Power Electronics

Day 3 - Introduction to Electric Machines and E-Motor Drives

This introductory fully interactive course aims to provide learners with the foundational knowledge required to develop a deeper understanding of modern electric motors and their control. It offers an excellent base for progression to Intermediate and Advanced level courses.

Tailored for engineers with traditional pre-electrification industry experience, technicians, students in engineering and technician programmes at levels 2 or 3 or non-technical roles; the course aims to expand their knowledge in Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD).

As the UK accelerates towards a net-zero future, hydrogen is set to play a critical role in transforming our energy landscape - and so are the people working within it.


We’re calling on employers to prioritise the professional development of your engineering staff and apprentices by releasing them to attend Hydrogen Safety Training programme, delivered in partnership with Hydrogen Safe, a specialist provider of green energy training.


Why Act Now?
Thanks to government funding through the Institutes of Technology (IoTs) and Thames Freeport, this essential 3-day training course is completely fully funded - removing any financial barrier to participation.
With £2.1 billion recently allocated by the UK Government to support Hydrogen Production Business Model (HAR1) projects, it’s clear that hydrogen is at the heart of the UK's industrial and environmental strategy. As hydrogen adoption grows - especially in hubs like Thames Freeport - so too does the need for a workforce trained in hydrogen safety.

What Will Staff & Apprentices Gain?
Over 3 Fridays in May - 2nd, 9th and 16th May - participants will gain:
Comprehensive Hydrogen Safety Knowledge
•    Production, storage, transport and usage of hydrogen
•    Risk identification and mitigation
•    Confidence to work safely around hydrogen systems
Regulatory & Practical Skills
•    Up-to-date knowledge of UK and international safety standards
•    Practical skills for handling hydrogen across applications - vehicles, heating, fuel cells
•    Hands-on insights into working safely in hydrogen environments

On Thursday 15th May Sam will be taking on the challenge of a skydive to raise vital  funds for Mind.

Sam, Relationship Manager at SEATS said " I have always thought about doing a skydive and recently I was approached at work with the opportunity to make this thought a reality. What makes this even more meaningful is the chance to use it as a way to support MIND, a charity that does incredible work for mental health.

Electrification Skills - Intermediate 4 Day Course

  • 16th- 19th June 2025

Modules:

Day 1 - Electrical Circuit Theory

Day 2 - Electrical Machines

Day 3 - Power Electronics

Day 4 - E-Motor Drives

Designed for those already engaged in vehicle electrical systems, aerospace, industrial electronics manufacturing, testing or design, this course is aimed at professionals in roles such as maintenance, testing or repair. It is also suitable for those who have completed the Fundamental level.

The course aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of various aspects related to power electronics and drives, including AC circuit theory, magnetically coupled circuits, machine topologies, power electronics devices and switching optimisation, power converters, and motor control techniques.

The intermediate course has been structured for participants currently at levels 3 - 5 in the UK qualification system, have a broader and more in-depth understanding of the subject, with the ability to apply theoretical concepts to practical situations. Participants may be experienced in an engineering environment but lack knowledge of electrical drives or control.
