Description
12 October 2027
Half-day, in person at The Hive, London Gateway
Accountability isn’t about blame. And performance management shouldn’t only happen when something has gone wrong.
The strongest leaders create an environment where people understand what is expected, take ownership for delivering it and feel able to have open conversations when things aren’t going to plan.
Driving Performance & Accountability is a practical half-day workshop designed to help managers move beyond simply setting expectations to actively creating a culture where people take responsibility for performance and results.
What the session will cover
During the workshop, participants will explore how to:
- create clear expectations around performance and results
- establish genuine ownership rather than manager dependency
- make accountability part of everyday team conversations
- recognise when performance is beginning to slip
- address issues early rather than allowing them to escalate
- have confident and constructive performance conversations
- challenge poor performance appropriately
- balance support with personal responsibility
- follow up effectively on actions and commitments
- avoid rescuing, taking over or solving every problem
- recognise and reinforce positive performance
- create practical actions to strengthen accountability within their team
Who is this session for?
This workshop is ideal for team leaders, supervisors, managers and emerging leaders who are responsible for delivering results through others.
It is particularly valuable for managers who find themselves repeatedly chasing actions, having the same conversations, accepting missed commitments or stepping in when other people should be taking ownership.
From setting expectations to creating ownership
There is an important difference between telling someone what they are responsible for and creating genuine accountability.
Accountability happens when people understand the outcome required, accept ownership and know that progress will be followed through.
For managers, that means being willing to have the conversations that matter – including the difficult ones.
This session will help leaders develop the confidence to challenge when necessary, support where appropriate and keep responsibility where it belongs.
Better performance conversations
Avoiding a difficult conversation rarely makes the issue disappear.
Handled well, performance conversations can create clarity, strengthen relationships and give people the opportunity to improve.
Participants will explore practical ways to make those conversations clear, fair, timely and constructive, while keeping the focus on behaviour, performance and agreed outcomes.
